Tim Steven

Biography/insight

Tim Steven is an Ontario-based artist living in Cambridge, just west of Toronto. He studied at Sheridan College of Applied Arts, operated his award winning design studio for 25 years, while also exhibiting his fine art. He closed his design practice in 2005 to focus on his art -- oil and acrylic painting.

Steven's process is an ebb and flow of spontaneous and controlled mark-making, exploring the relationship between intention and chance. Steven finds retaining roughage an integral ingredient, often merged with glass-like finishes -- allowing each mark, each passage to communicate with the next, toward a final resolution.

Vision Statement:

My vision is to create images through the interplay of opposites, until each painting speaks its own truth. Thick, textured applications of paint intersect with intimate nuance to bring life to each canvas.

I have been creating art for over 40 years, specializing in oil, acrylic and mixed media paintings. My work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Heavily influenced by nature and the beauty of the world around us, I strive to capture the essence of my subjects and bring them to life on canvas.
